Filling the tranny will oil

Post by Jerbearyukon »

Is it just me or am I missing something. I find the manuals pretty hard to follow to find the basic things.

Case in point. The tranny needs fluid change and I can see the one for draining but I am having a hardtime locating the filler plug.

A PICTURE would be great.

Also I was wondering if I did this right. I filled the portal hubs toady with (85-145wt) and I drained it and then just filled the top plug until it ran out (is that correct).

did the diffs and the back gearbox (80-90wt) that the driveshaft goes to from the tranny....same proceedure (hope I did it right).

Thanks a bunch.

I use a regular wrench to take the fill plug off

So do you have to take the cover off the floor boards to get at the filll plug?

This is what I see - drain on the left - 90 degree level port on the right and you say the fill port is up above that. Don't know how to get at it without taking the cover plate off the floor inside...THANKS

My picture should get you there...maybe you dont have the nut...i dont know if it is standard or the last guy did a modification, EI has the nuts if you want to make the change. I know i did not have to remove any floorboard...this link is direct

If you blow the pic up you can see that the standard plug screws into the nut.

Yes...when you take it off it will be obvious the picture on
page 107 of the operating manual shows the nut (fig. 87/1) so it appears it is the stock arrangement.

Your factory tool kit has a stubby 10mm hex wrench just for this purpose.

So I have noticed that since I have changed the fluid in the transmission and it is harder to shift now. Not sure what was in there before but I put 85-90 in it so I am not sure whats up.
