front locker won't release

Post by Pols497 »

I had my 712 m out in some rough stuff the other day and was in 6 wheel drive rocking it forward and backwards trying to get out of a ditch. When I did make it out I noticed that it pulls to the right when in 6wd, also it takes longer to come out of 6wd now. I have done a search on this and I haven't read of anyone having this problem. Dave or Jim can you guys give me any pointers on this. It doesn't make any grinding noise or jerk or pop. It just pulls to the right now more than before and it takes a few miles to come out of 6wd. The lever on the passenger side is the one that doesn't disengage. When I disengage the lever and try to engage it again it appears to have fluid in it an won't take anymore. Any help on this would greatly be appreciated.

Most likely wax build up inside the front locker master or flexible line to front locker. Try flushing the system before attempting any repairs, you may flush out the problem.

I would check air pressure and alignment.
If the front stays locked, the tires must turn together as one, so if one is lower pressure it would pull.
That would be the starting point.

Much thanks Jim, you were right, my right front tire was pretty low on air and I flushed my lockers and now they work fine. One question, I have 4 witch hats underneath my 712 and three hydraulic levers, which operates what?

1st lever is front driveshaft power, 2nd is tied to 2 masters for the 2 rear axle Diff lockers, last lever is front Diff locker.

Interesting thing about those levers...when you are bleeding or flushing the lines...do not pump
the levers, they need time to release the pressure. I was not aware of that fact and had to replace
a lever as I broke one thinking it was just a bit stuck.
