Want to know how I fixed my mechanical drive speedometer?

I sent it to Paul Underwood!

He cracked open the case and got the gears to line up correctly, put it back together and shipped it back to me for a modest fee. Unless you feel like digging around in there and screwing it up even worse, I'd suggest dropping him a line to tell him about your speedo problems to see if he can help you out.

Yeah, without knowing how fast I was going, all of those speeding tickets in the Pinz were killin' me! Now I know how fast I'm not going so my driving record should now be in better shape!

My speedo works but the odometer is frozen. I've read about the possible repairs here; but is that something you can fix as well?

Not trying to take away biz from Paul, but it isn't that hard to do. The speedo was the first repair on my Pinz and I posted about it....

Hi john,

The odo failure is the most common I've seen, usually caused by cogs slipping on a shaft or by a loose screw which allows the shaft to go out of contact with another gear. In either case, the most difficult part of the job is getting the bezel off the speedo case.

Berger is correct, it isn't tremendously difficult. There are decent writeups of the job if you wish to try it, or otherwise ship it to me and I can likely fix it. (I haven't failed yet.)

I had the same problem with the odometer. The easiest fix (for me) was to put in a box so that Paul could mess with it at his leisure. It has worked like a champ ever since.
