tranny oil leak....
tranny oil leak....
Hello folks!, i just found this little oil leak on my transmission, and im hopping that you guys can tell me if this is a simple repair, i was hoping to be as simple as desconnecting the linkage and slide out n slide in a new seal... now, is this seal a regular seal?? should i remove it and go look for the same, or somebody here know the specs for this seal???? here some pics..

Re: tranny oil leak....
Should be pretty easy to remove the shifter housing and remove the selector shaft to put a new seal in properly. Not sure if it's an O-ring or a seal or both.

Re: tranny oil leak....
There are 2 seals(and a tower mounting gasket), get the numbers from the parts manual or order them from one of the forum sponsors.

Hey Waterdog,
If you don't mind post a couple more pics when you do your repair as I'm 98% certain that I have to do the same repair on my truck.
Thanks

Re: tranny oil leak....
i just clean up the area to see how bad is the leak, and has not drip in 2 days, so i guess is a very very small leak, may not get on it too soon

Same leak as well, but it's such a small volume haven't done anything about it.
Re: tranny oil leak....
I also have that leak. It doesn't drip at all while the vehicle is stationary even after several days, but if I clean it up and go for a drive it's wet again. Keeping an eye on the oil level...

Re: tranny oil leak....
Sorry no pics but I did get around to fixing mine. Not much to it if you have Andre holding your hand. I'm sure he gets tired of me calling. Pop out the little rubber plug on top if the tower and rotate the shaft till you see two roll pins thru the hole. Drive them out with a punch. Don't lose them. Once they are out you can slide the shaft out. It takes some pulling so don't be afraid. It won't just fall out. Once the shaft is out you can remove the seal. Mine only had one in it. Luckily the one I ordered was the thinner inner seal, so I popped out the thicker one whic was still in decent shape. Popped the thinner one in and put the other thicker one in last. Slide the shaft back in and line up the holes making sure the arm is pointing down ( I know that should be a given but I had to do over cause I put it in upside down the first time) drive in the large roll pin then the small one replace the base gasket( I made mine cause I forgot to order one) and bolt back on the truck. Done. If I can do it anybody can.
Re: tranny oil leak....
I also rebuilt mine a couple of weeks ago but took lots of pics...agreed very easy job. I will post some pics next week when I have more time.

Re: tranny oil leak....
Ok here we go, lots of pics but overall a very simple job.
First remove your tranny although not necessary it makes the job a lot easier. 2. Drain oil
3. With a 13mm socket remove the shift tower (5 bolts) 4. Once removed use a blade driver and gently pry out the plastic stopper(you may have to work at it a bit) 5. You should now see the 2 dowel pins that you will have to remove(one inside the other). Drive both of them straight down with a small punch one at a time until they fall out the bottom side
