Battery switch relay

Post by bbonomo »

Hi, I found an after market relay in my battery box. I think I tracked the trigger for it down to the blue wire on the regulator plug.

The schematic actually refers to this relay (#45 - Relay to Battery Main Switch), but mine is clearly after market.

Does anyone else have a relay in their battery box?

Where is this usually installed from the factory?

The Battery ground shunting relay is normally #53 with the manual switch #54.
It would be driven by the Alternator output D+ (Blue), turning the relay on
when the engine is running (Alternator is outputting).

This relay is typically located under the dog house on the drivers side. I've
never seen it located in the Battery box. As long as the connection to the
manual battery switch (or Batt NEG terminal) and chassis ground are proper
gauge wire this should be fine.
