Spare bendix drive (old gen), anyyone?
I've swapped my old gen starter for an EI version, but I'd like to fix up the OEM starter. Its bendix doesn't always engage, so I'm looking for a replacement bendix drive. I believe it's part #09-30-60. Anyone?

Looks like a 6 month old post ... but, to answer the question: Take the old starter to any reputable alternator/starter repair shop. They can rewind the motor and replace the contacts, paint it up like new and it will only cost about $100. If you want to keep it in stock for emergencies, or just like the restoration, the fully serviced and properly wound starter will put out 35A in real measurements. I keep one in a case for future needs, if ever.

As mentioned, the issue is the bendix drive. The rest of the starter is fine. To the best of my knowledge, there isn't any service you can do for the bendix drive itself. thx

Yep, I'm aware of the SAV source, but thanks, though. But $200 is more than I want to sink into a spare starter. My hope is someone has an old starter with some other failure (brushes, windings, bearings, broken housing, etc.) and I could put in a *used* bendix into my old starter to make a good [read: trustable] spare. But then again....maybe that fancy new EI gear reduction start is good for life!

Like I said ... take it to a regular old reliable alternator service place . The interior parts are not manufacturer specific. The alternator place I used didn't bat an eye. I think the parts they used were all current Bosch comparable parts. To them, you see one alternator or starter, you've seen them all.
