greetings!

I just picked up a 24V search lamp (on the bay) and it came with a connector I don't recognize:



Now, I know I could chop it off and connect a standard 24V cigar-lighter style plug, but the wiring is so nice (fused and waterproof looking to me) I'd like to find out what it is.

Can anyone steer me in the right direction?

All 24V plugs are not equal. What was the intended purpose, what vehicle did it come from, how many wires go to the light?
Get the 24V plug from SAV and use the radio outlet behind the co-driver seat.
Even if you cut one prong off it is not going to fit the pinz.

I would be willing to bet it comes from US vehicle.

I was told this was a light from a HMMWV, but I have no way of confirming it. Two wires go to the lamp (pretty simple DC circuit) with the positive wire fused.

It is a 24V JW Speaker model 9780, 35 watt HID spotlight. Supposed to be a pretty bright thing.

I hadn't planned on modifying the plug, I was just interested if I could pick up a mating female plug and wire it directly into the truck.

I'll probably just cut the plug off and rewire, unless I can find more info.

Before you cut it off --

I think that plug may correspond to the plugs that are
used in the audio industry for professional microphones.
The housing just looks mil spec/waterproof. They make
both a male and female version.

I'm currently e-mailing with their technical people to identify and source the plug behind the passenger's seat.

Interesting. I talked to her the other day and I thought he
told me they didn't have any or know the correct manufacture.

I don't mean to hijack this thread, but does anyone
know how many amps or watts the accessory plug
behind the passenger seat is rated at? I don't want
to hook up an accessory light that might melt the wires
or pop fuses.

That accessory socket was originally intended for the radio according to the schematic. It is wired directly to the starter and on to the battery with no fuse or circuit breaker. My opinion would be to add an in-line fuse or breaker to whatever you plug in to it and probably limit it to a 10A draw.

Thanks. 10 amps x 24 volts = 240 watts. It would have to be one seriously bright accessory light to draw 10 amps. lol

I run a handheld spotlight off mine.... and use an inline fuse block similar to the ones in Mogs to operate several other things.
Never had any issues with amps being too large or small for any of the operations.
...also use it to operate the ARB cooler when traveling. Very versatile plug.

I was thinking of replacing the side vent panel, which is
normally used for the heating, with a louvered panel I
saw, and putting a small exhaust fan (with a cutoff timer)
in the opening. By putting a 1 hour timer on it, I can
prevent running down the batteries if I don't come back
in an hour.

Why?
