Would a leak in the hose from the intake manifold to the brake booster have any effect on the travel of the brake pedal? Or could the plastic valve in that hose be a problem?
We've bled the brakes 3 times and on first brake application the pedal still sinks way down but then is fine after that. Braking is okay but the pedal travel is a problem.
Hopefully it's not rebuild time for the master cylinder

Brake adjustment would be the first thing to check... if it still require pumping, check all the rubber hoses for swelling or ballooning, and lastly a bad check valve in the Master cylinder. Other symptems will tell other faults.

pcolette: to answer your question, yes. But the effect would be a loss of assist in applying pressure... if there are no leaks in the vacuum hoses then you could/should feel the pedal go down more easily.
