Hi All
Has anyone restored a steering wheel successfully? Mine is badly chipped and generally scabby. A professional restoration costs a fortune. Does anyone have any advice?
Thanks
Sam
Steering wheel restoration
Re: Steering wheel restoration
I've seen good articles on restoring them from the VW bug and bus crowds. Usually involved filling chips and cracks with an epoxy or other material and then grinding it smooth and painting. Or get a new one - EI had some new steering wheels from a Unimog which were very similar at a reasonable price.

There are articles on eastwood.com on steering wheel restoration... And then there is $99 for this https://expedition-imports.com/4064600203

Re: Steering wheel restoration
I can report from personal experience that having a softer plastic or rubber, etc. wheel makes a massive difference in a positive way. After you use one, going back to a hard wheel feels really horrible.

Re: Steering wheel restoration
I restored my Haflinger steering wheel a couple years ago.
Remove, sand, repaired cracks and chips with epoxy, sand and then painted with a 2k black paint
Turned out well but lots of work/time
Away currently so can’t post any photos
