Hi all, been lurking this forum for a couple years, now looking more seriously into getting my first Pinz. I realized there's one question I don't have the answer to (and then about 300,000 more after that)... how is the interior of the K model versus the M? That's not a very good question so I'll elaborate.

Essentially I have been heavily leaning towards the K, for various reasons, and intend to find one in fairly typical military configuration and not do a lot of butchering. HOWEVER, I would also like to be able to use it as a camping/expedition vehicle with at the very least an air mattress or cot in the back. I'm not certain of the dimensions but it seems pretty likely that this wouldn't fit with the 3x desk chairs where they are. Do those chairs fold down or are they otherwise easily removed? Does the K model feature the deployable "floor" fold-down seats further back, like the M model has? Any examples you'd like to share of nicely (but not extremely) modded K ships? I saw a really nice one not too long ago... but now that I think about it, I believe it actually started life as an M and was modded with a K-style hard top!

If you start with a 712K (6x6) then you would have a lot more space and options - there should be enough space behind the bench seats in the longer 712K to have a full length bed - I would remove the center seat of the tree in back and live with seating for four people probably - that would allow good access to the area under the bed for storage etc.

The interior of 710 K is very little but it's possible to live in. I made as little modification as possible, so I kept the table, just modified to slip over a kitchen.


For sleeping, two berth leaned on the shelf at the rear and on brackets on the front. Of course it's necessary to be thin to enter! (only one berth on the photos...)

There is a stock-Pinzgauer version, which might meet your desires:
the 710 MS, which is a 3 door steeltop version of the M, mainly used as ambulance or by the military police in former Yugoslavia

The 4 backseats folded to the floor provide a flat bed of 2,30 m lenght, more than enough to lay down.

If you need a expedition vehicle for 2, that would be my first joice.
I have fittet a back seat of a Smart ForFour, that can be folded away completely to the front, which makes a family size car.

I wasn't aware of the MK/MS... could be interesting, but on the other hand I also never see them for sale. Another wrinkle: I am in California, so I'm restricted more or less to vehicles either already registered here, or '72 model year or earlier.

Actually, '71 through '74 are relatively easily registered in CA as 74 and earlier do not require smog (which CA won't do for a Pinz, regardless) to get plates and tabs. '75 is very iffy, and '76 and newer are a definite no-way.

The desk seats are easily foldable, the back is articulated as the front seats.

I'll defer to Scott regarding '72 for new registrations. This seems like it should be a touchy road for CARB to follow; if I can keep registering my '74, can they have different requirements for new registrations? Seems like a double standard, but then, hey, that's what politicians are known for. Or are they planning to refuse to continue to license my trucks? Yuck.

California with double standards? Ever hear of prop 13?

Lots of room in the M. Even room to sleep and all the gear for a long trip.
Sold it so don't what is the look now.

Your kitchen set up looks great.
