They look too far back to be for mounting the grille...

Apparently mine is a civilian version - don't have any other details than that - I wonder what they were for?

Must use them for something, perhaps i'll mount cooling fans on there?

Looks like something to hit your head on and say @#*&$%@#*(^%#... But cooling fans would be cool. Maybe, the wire mesh cage thing would bolt onto those?
