710K Radio Table Install

Post by kpoling »

I am replacing the radio table that was missing from my truck. I was lucky to get one from Scott @ EI last summer. The table mounts above the lower "lateral boards" behind the front seat bulkhead. Has anyone on the board ever installed one of these?

After fussing around with trying to fit it, it will not fit without some body disassembly. I am guessing that the previous owner cut the old one in half to remove as none of the bolts holding the upper & lower side panels seem to have been removed before.

It looks like I need to remove the bolts on one side of the upper & lower panels so I can move the upper panel out about 3" to fit the table in.

I made my own from plywood & it was a major pain to get in place. As you say, unbolting the tub might be the only option

I’ve had my table in and out, can’t remember what the trick was right now however body disassembly wasn’t needed.

Robyn/Ed: Thanks for your responses.

I ended up taking all of the bolts that connect the top section panel to the bottom section out, from the windshield to the rear side door. Then I used a small bottle jack with a 4 x 4 about 32"L to slightly create a gap at the read side door hinge panel joint. With the table wedged in, the low side on the right & the high side on the left, I used a pry bar to move the upper left sheet metal out about 1/2" outward and the table dropped into place. Quite an exercise! Now just need to put everything back together.

Yes I know how tight a fit these are! I think in the factory they are put in with the top body :)

I have a small dent in my top body from levering the original table out, but its done now! I have replaces the original with a 1/3 width table to allow space for my bed.

I had to take the table out this weekend to deliver a couch (and my son) at college. I was unable to remove it as one piece, and had to unscrew the top from the frame. The top was easy to bend and remove, and the frame just needed to flex very slightly to get free.

Hey edzz,
Really great idea, makes me wish I had a "K"... but where are the cup holders?

I was able to get mine out by removing the rifle holders and the table legs, shifting one end up and forward absolutely as far as it would go with some rotation, other end down and back, rotating. Was very tight when it came out, dented a corner of the table.

I have a spare table if anyone is interested ;)
