I did a dealer search on the Starboard web site. The Seattle dealer told me of a local boat/cabinet shop that used the material, thats how I got the 1/2" thick scraps (pretty good size!) for free. The sheet of 3/4 inch I ordered from a local plastics shop. The box could easily be made out of the 1/2 inch material. I'll let you know how it stands up to Pinzgauer engine heat.

I used a product called Homax Orange Peel Spray Texture to replicate the coating that Brian Mason added to the engine cover when he owned this truck.

I then spray painted it black and here are the results. Excellent workmanship Michael. Thanks again for a great solution to a problem I didn't even realize I had!

How about some sort of overhead console next?

I was thinking about the overhead console idea too.... wanted to put something in across the top of the windshield. After the excessive pricing I got from emachineshop.com (almost $1000 for a piece of aluminum with 4 bends....that's before adding the bottom piece) I decided to regroup and come up with another plan. I'll talk to a machine shop when I get home from work in about ten days.

Overhead consoles have been discussed before and while I have not found any idea I like better than the tuffy unit I have tried a few. The firs picture is a version that drops down between the head guards which I duplicated but found I hit my head on it far too many times while looking at or for something in the rear of the pinz. The second picture is the tuffy. I have never hit my head on the tuffy box unless the radios had been opened and I was leaning across the center to get something.

I like the Tuffy. Can you also install it backwards?

a lot of people install it the other way around. I wanted to leave the area open between the visors for a future 5" ftf screen for backup camera/gps screen. Nice thing with the tuffy box is they are lockable and have lots of room inside to install other items. I have the controll unit for my intercom in mine along with the jacks for the front headsets.

I'm tempted to cut a piece of 3/16 or 1/4" aluminum, say 8-10" wide, and have tapped holes drilled every inch or so in a grid. If I mount that plate to the roof then I have lots of places to mount whatever I want, whenever I want to. This way I do not have to decide what I want to mount in advance.

Was going to add the new piece this weekend. What size drill bit did you use to drill the cup holder support screws?

We used a 5/16ths bit.

Just got the console, looks very good. Will install it this afternoon.

The first installation I used 5/16ths self tapping tech screws, but after time they began to loosen up. I ended up putting a small tack weld on each side where the console contacted the roof support/rollbar. I made a bracket to go from the console to the windshield and bolted it. The bracket allowed me to keep the original visors and have enough room for a 5" screen (yet to be installed)

Installed the Tuffy double console, definitely the way to go. Nice and clean! Although 6'2 tall, don't believe it will be in the way of my head!
