Bikmakr's/mule expedition winch mount

Post by Derrickbwg »

Wanted to say thanks to bikmakr for designing a really nice winch mount. Mule expedition made me one for each truck. Joe said they have a jig now for them so give him a call if you're interested. I'm using the warn zeon 10 24v winch.

I haven't received the hawse fairlead yet, but besides that it's all buttoned up and ready to go. There was some minor tweaking to get the mount to fit, I chalk it up to variances in the trucks and how the bumpers are mounted. Measuring mounting points between the trucks show a slight difference.
I wired it to the starter and the chassis side ground, there was just enough cable stock to get to those points. Wrapped in a split loom and grommeted every hole they pass through.

I went wheeling Friday and didn't clean it up before the install....its not always a mess like thatImage

Thanks for posting. Can you show more photos of the lower attachments to the frame?

Heres the one i havent mounted yet. Big bolt has a sleeve and replaces the stock pin. I did not like the bolts and washers i used to mount to the witches hat. Ive ordered larger washers to spread out the load a little more there as the metal is fairly thinImageImageImage

The approach angle is about as good as you can get with a winch mount.

I have always liked this winch mount. I noticed you don't have a bumper installed, do you know if this would fit over the existing stock bumper, or do you lose that with this mount?

The stock bumperetts need to be modified if you want to retain them. The bolts for the mount(at least on mine) are so close to the mount body you have to use an open end wrench....a socket will not go over the bolt heads. If you look at my last pic you can see the close tolerance. I cut back my bumper all the way to the mounting tab to try to get clearance where i could use a wrench with the bumper on like that and had no luck.

Im trying to get a bumper made that will work but im not very concerned about oem look.

I am confused as to why the stock bumperettes can not be used. Apparently this bolts in the same place. Is there not enough clearance behind the mount? I really like this mount but not using the stock bumperettes is a big negative for me.

Also wondering if the stock pin can take the place of the bolt. Not a big deal on this issue, just curious.

Thanks!

The Fat Fab mount is similar and you can use the stock bumper.

A closer review of the photos and the front of my Pinz has answered my own question, Thanks.
It appears that this could be remedied with a little modification to the design allowing for it to be spaced out to the front of the bumperettes.

Yep....drill and tap a top bolt mount like stock...and weld it a few inches outward from the stock mount and drill and tap a couple of holes in the square tubing. That will give clearance for a wrench. The mount was around 700.00 finished in powder coat.

Do you have s pic of the fat fab mount with the stock bumpers mounted Vince?

That basic design has been around a long time since I did one back in probably 2001 for a customer. I'm sure there are lots of pics around. I dont have any on hand. Look up the post about the Japan export 710K I did. It had one on it. Works great (I tested it doing off-road recovery more than once)

Are the 4 lower bolt ovals not used? Seems like you'd have to drill into the front extension of the spine tube?

You do have to drill into it.

I've done some really heavy pulls on that design that worked great. No damage at all to the Pinz.
