Check for Rust. I have seen 303 that range from good to rust buckets where you could easily loose your 6 pack through the holes or loose metal. Next look at the back of the hubs for oil. The front hub seals can leak. Proceed to the rear hub and have a good peer. Have repaired 2 with the attaching bolts loose. Oil all over the back is the result. Abit of a pain to tighten the bolts back three. Give the rubber brake lines a good looking. From there the usual mechanical checks.

Best of luck

For Volvos expect to pay;-

The soft top 11/11 about $9 to $10K. Many call this the "Ugly One' but it can usually be found in great condition with very low odometer readings. Check for rust on the lower skirt(s) near the wheel arches.

The "tin tops" c303's can be found for $12K but you'll have a search on your hands to find a rust free one. There was a campaign when in Swedish Mil hands to rebody and some will be out there. Since most dealers benchmark the 710k as a price match some will command as much as $16K. ( What do they say? Emulation is the finest for of flattery)

I personnally don't think they are worth that but for an exceptional one you will shell out some serious cash to own a nice unit.
(p.s isn't all cash serious?). Be hard nosed and try to barter down a price if you can. Remember even a perfect one will need a set of hard valve seats installed eventually. So think $3000 to cover that.

The c304 can be obtained for $18k but most will be stickered at $22K. So beware again of the "Gothenburg Oxidizer"!
