I would try taking a scrapping of the original paint to someone who can match it - that way you would be certain to get the original colour.

I received the paint codes from Stephen Hill (his father was a dealer back in the day) so I am very confident in those codes. However matching it is a great idea too - may as well to confirm since it has been preserved perfectly in a few key spots.

Well Dan... Mine was none of those colors.
Its a deep green.

Is it possible your upper cowl piece came from a separate vehicle?
It seems strange to have that minty green on the bed, but not on the cowl..

Verified by removing and looking under the top engine cover seal, under battery box and under tool box, etc so I will call it confirmed (may get my build sheet but requesting that is getting pricey)
The green was a wierd green and I did not put 2 and 2 together
You sure about your color??
From what I have read and been told it was 3 colors for USA Pathfinders but as with many of these vehicles there are always surprises
Mine was yellow as well like yours :)
Here is a pic of it from 2 owners ago (Greg then painted it red)

Almost a forest green.
This photo was taken by the prior owner.. and since the Hafi was treated like a whipped dog by the guy before him, I would be stunned if he had a full respray done.

I'm also surprised that the "orange"color is not a standard, since a good number of them appear to be stock orange or prior orange..
Like the one Audiocontr just got (failed red over orange)..
or Charles Frick's Pathfinder (which I lust for..)

Interesting and quite possible as I am no 'expert' just going off of what I remember :)
I thought the same thing about the orange ones as that one on ebay a few months back that sold for $13k+ was orange as well and seemed very original! - Zoomed in an I can see L281 (or primer)?
Just looked at another one I have pics of (it sold for $200) and it is orange as well but upon a closer look it was L281 and someone sprayed it - perhaps a US dealer sprayed them orange, some company that purchased a fleet of them or they were a special order or ????
Both those orange trucks were out of Texas
Would be interesting for you to pull a bit of the rubber seal from around the rear engine lid on yours and verify color.
I would suggest getting the build sheet but it is quite pricey now (£65 GBP)

Hi Dan,
It's my understanding that all Haflingers began life with an L281 coat of paint. This first coat served as a primer and some trucks received additional coats if ordered in that hue. I know my trucks had this color beneath the original undercoat layer. Interestingly though, original spare body parts were shipped in a matte gray primer coat.
Also, Constantin has given me info on a fourth paint color used on US Pathfinder models. It is a matte olive which is similar to the Austrian Army Haf color and is RAL7013. I have not yet found the automotive standard "L-code" for this yet.
As for the orange color, I haven't seen any confirmed original cases of this for NA Hafs yet. I know that there was a small fleet of Canadian Hafs used in Quebec municipal service that were re-sprayed prior to delivery. The original color of these trucks was Red (Rot).

Sorry!

Shouldn't have queried the paint code - :P You could have painted your Haflinger in the colour of your choice :D
Now you will have to spend money to find out that is was in fact correct (probably)!

Ok so I was going through photos of my 2nd Hafi that I recently sold and the "new" Olive color Steve/Constantin mentioned now makes sense. Mike not sure if yours in olive green or more hunter green? Perhaps another color we don't know about??
As you can see from pictures below (olive color is also on the other side (inside hand crank area as well)) this hafi was definitely olive green (someone resprayed it a bit lighter color but the olive green is factory as it is in every side nook and cranny).
I will take a RAL chart home today and see if I can match it up to RAL7013 (looks really dark on my charts) - once I do I will make a new thread so we can document this and have it easy to search for.

So I got my Wagenstammkarte/build sheet...
Color is listed as "beige" so now I am even more confused!!
Based on what I see under parts that have never see the light of day the color looks just like the SAV one that just sold.
So I am sticking with the L281 Grey-White (for now :D )

Hi Dan,
Your original color is the L275 code that I gave you a while back. Note that many of the bolt-on pieces on original Hafs were painted with the olive green Austrian military paint before getting the final color coat. You will often find the inside of battery or tool boxes and windscreen frame flanges with the olive green under layer. My guess is that S-D-P had a large parts inventory at the ready for release to the Austrian & Swiss armies so would also use this stock on the vehicle assembly line.

I just have not found that darker L275 color anywhere on my vehicle.
The build sheet listed "beige" could be the L281 and for all I know they called the L275 Light Brown??
I am glad I have a winter break on the body work :)
