Radial tire options?

Post by jkslvr »

Time for some new tires.
I want to keep the stock wheels. I like them.
Are there any ideas on a set of raidal tires to put on the stock wheels? Comerical or ATV if needed.

Id love less resistance then the original bias ply

Do you want/need DOT legal tires for on road use or all non-road use?

No need for DOT.

Just less rolling resistance. Those Bias Mil tires felt Like driving with the brakes on all the time.

I have Goodyear Wranglers on mine. Pretty much any 16" tire will work if it's the right dimmensions. Everything and anything will be better than the originals.

There is not a whole lot that I have found for the narrow original rim.
See this thread for some suggestions: viewtopic.php?p=20642#p20642

From what I have researched, only California and New Jersey forbid the use of non-DOT approved tires on the road; the other states allow non-DOT approved tires. Most states prohibit selling non-DOT approved tires for road use but do not prohibit a private owner from using them on the road. This may give you more options.

I had Michelins installed on the 13" Fiat wheels that are on my Haflinger. Off road tires are not available in 13", or so I was told. I still have the original wheels and tires in case I want to off road someday.

What are the Fiat rims you have off of?. The bolt patern and the offset are the same?

Here's a link to my Fiat wheels. The pattern was correct, but OEM lug nuts would not work.

The standard steel Fiat wheels use the original Haffy lug nuts. The alloy require special lug nuts

I am also running the 13" Fiat wheels but mine are steel - they just bolt up and there are a few winter tires that fit.
I also have a set of 14" Lancia alloys but need to work on the new bolts
Set of stock rims as well but really hard to find DOT tires for the narrow 12" rims

I haven't brought Haflinger tyres for years (poor old Haffy's are getting neglected, especially now the td is taking most of my time), but back in the "old days" I used to buy 13" Yokohama or Goodyear Rally tyres (they were quite aggressive and good on the road)....they were quite common as they fitted a lot of the older/smaller rally vehicles.
I don't know what are the common sizes nowdays, but I daresay I'II have to find out in future years when the Haffy's get their turn at restoration.

Shhhhhh!!!! ...I did buy one of the last sets of factory original Semperits many, many, years ago and they are stored away, but I daresay they'll be as hard as rocks when I do eventually use them.....still, they will be good for fitting to the LWB for shows etc.
