Trying to figure out why this Halflinger has what appears to be a snorkel mounted on the front or is that part of the winch installation.

That was the tropic air intake that they ended up putting on may Australian Hafi's

The front air intake is on APs that have the optional tropical gear or standard on APTs.
Though I wouldn't mind the additional accessory shown in the original link.

I want one of those hand cranked winches, would work even if your battery went flat! The Haflinger at 670 KG's should be relatively easy to wind out of a hole with that sort of winch.
