Picked up an LMTV M1079 Workshop van from GL Was a former FT Drume 725 EOD truck with 5K miles. Was started right up and driven away 110 miles not too shabby. Should be a good base to try and make a camper like this:

I've seen them go from $3,500 to $28,000 depending on condition mileage running driving and how many are up on the auction block at the same time and location has a part in it also. $3,500 gets you a truck missing a lot of parts as it most likely was not running and scavenged off of and and unknown risk of if you can get it running or just a parts truck. 6-12K gets you a decent cargo (folding flatbed)truck with minor issues( ie batteries(needs to be jumped) missing turret door handles etc). 12K and up is usually a running truck driven on lot as with all government surplus there is some risk gamble on them as the US maintenance care for equipment isn't like the swiss Pinzes and mogs we're all used to seeing. Also workshop vans seem to be a rarer quantity as I've only seen maybe 10 of them released but the cargo trucks seem to be more plentiful and coming available as Uncle Sam gets rid of the light skinned vehicles.

I know you have lots of info on these. Will get in touch with you once I get the truck back to my AO as its currently at staging area til I pick it up. I've heard 8-10 MPG and what driveable RV gets any better? I wouldn't commute in one of these thats for sure

If you need any hoses (besides radiator) for that let me know. Chances are I can get them from the OEM since they are just down the road.

6 mpg was the factory's number for general consumption. My parade princess bears that out, but highway would be a lot better.

There are a few parts I'd tell you to grab if you see them. The cab is the only thing Steyr (though made in the USA), and those parts are the most difficult. Drivetrain, brakes and many electrical components are commercial HD truck parts . I still get random packages from BAE occasionally, unusual marketing items . Unfortunately, the plant is closing, and scheduled to be vacated by June.

Going to NY to drive it home tomorrow 262 mile. SS'er who grabbed it from FT Drum for me said it drove good and checked the fluids said it was a good drive the 110 miles from FT Drum to his AO. He started today and moved it to get it ready and he said it fired right up no issues.

Dave anything I should look for on the drive or special tools equipment that would be handy I plan to bring a basic tool set.

Facial cream..? to let your face relax from the big smile after driving it.

Just like a giant Pinz without a clutch.

The only item that I can think of is a jumper wire if the starter thermal relay dies. You just bypass them.

Also with the military combat lighting switch, make sure you turn it on to have at least brake and turn signals ( 2 hand operation using switch, if you have never used one)

Yes saw you thermal switch jumper post and will be one of the first things I check should I get a no start.

Super stoked and will be making a video of the trip.

Made it back without issues drives real nice. Here are some pictures. It is Big and the wife says "its too big!!!" Like I've never heard that one before
