O.D./Infra Red paint

Post by Kiwibru »

Is there a specific formula or paint number for the standard O.D. paint used on the Pinz? Sources or other tid-bits appreciated.

Sean at EuroTruck had some a while back. I dont know if is still available. Most paint shops can do a good eye match and get close but it will not have the IR capabilities, if that is what you are looking for.

ir paint is available for houses and other things. i'd expect you can pick your color just like all other paint.

What about the stock military OD paint also being chemical/biological attack resistant? I learned that it was.

Not really needing the Infra Red capabilities, just the color match.
I guess I will take some removable item from the truck to my friend who does paint at the local hardware store and see what he can come up with. Got some areas I want to treat with POR-15, then paint over. Thanks for the replys.

Check out Rapco parts. They have the CARC style paint you are looking for. I have had good luck with all the paint I have purchased. They will let you mix colors for a full case price.

Infra Red capabilities

Post by Dean »

Could some one explain the purpose and function of the Infra Red capabilities of the paint. Is it to adsorb the infrared or reflect it?

absorbing ir is easy. if you paint it black you've got your oven (easy to see with ir cameras). that's what the rolling stones were talking about, pretty sure. or maybe not. 8)

Is this the right paint "34094 383 Green (CARC) Substitute" to match the orginal Pinz color?

I am doing some touch up and can not seem to find a good match.

The Pinz Color is RAL 6014 (Yellow Olive)

You can go to a sherwin williams chemical coatings paint store and have them mix it in quick dry enamel in a satin finish.

Of course paint fades so don't expect an exact match to existing color

OK, but the folks at my local S.W. store looked at me kind of funny when I asked about "RAL 6014". Turns out the RAL is a European color standard.
The S.W. folks said they could match a color (give 'em an appropriate part with said color) but as for actual color number that is unknown. They also said the automotive division would be able to produce a much more "robust" exterior paint for re-painting exterior surfaces.

So, another trip with a sample may finally give some formula for RAL 6014, Yellow Olive (Flat O.D.)...
