Voltage regulator

Post by Twin Pinzies »

On my way back from Moab, I noticed that the windshield wipers were speeding up beyond their normal speed. In fact, they started wipping back and fourth so fast that I lost (and found) a wiper arm twice. Also, I smelled the batteries boiling over. By the time I got home, the (red top) batteries were fried! The headlights seemed normal when the wipers where going spastic. I figured that they would blow with too much juice...?
Is this voltage regulator? I hope it is. I plan on replacing it since it's a $32 part two new batteries cost much more. Any other ideas?

I had the almost exact symptoms except my headlights would get very bright for awhile and then go back to "normal". It was the voltage regulator. Jim LaGuardia diagnosed that one for me. Happy New Year.

Scott at EI? I've had good experiences with them as well as SAV.

I had the same thing happen in a Mog on the way to the Rubicon one year. It is a site to see those Optimas boil and have the tops bubble up. Especially when you are sitting one them! We could hear them over the engine!

They didn't boil over though...That could of been an interesting situation.
