I had the same issue with my truck and it also runs like a champ. I discovered that 3 of the rear carburator bolts were not completely tight and I had fuel leaking from the carburator gasket around the loose bolts. I tightened them up and I don't have the smell anymore.

I had the same problem. I tightened the bolts on the carb mounts and guess what. No more leakage. My mechanic, however, recommended that I replace the gaskets. If I,m going to do this, I might as well rebuild the carbs. They are original.
