Wayne, did you order Mattrax too?!?!?! I really need to catch up with the Joneses now!!!

Those things are twice what my Pinz cost but wow, they would be fun to try out. I tried to get the power company here to buy one when I first saw them but they just use helicopters

Russ- No I did not order any. :( I have been very interested in them and would like to know how they really are from an owners perspective. The whole concept is just so cool but the budget will not allow me to play.

Yeah, they do cost as much as two 710M's but Mattracks has the market cornered and nothing competes with their design. As far as how they work on a Pinz, all I can say is it makes it look and act like a snowcat (pinzies already look like snocats with wheels).

PROS:
-They float above the terrain rather than piercing through and searching for traction at the bottom of the snow.
-They can be installed and changed back to tires pretty quickly. The advertized time is about the same as changins tires-30 min. That is WRONG. Give yourself a few hours, even with an assistant and a garage full of tools.
-They give the Pinz 21" of ground clearance.
CONS:
-Price. $32,000!
-Steering is impossible when stopped, and hard as hell when moving. You can get by without upgrading to power steering though. Snow allows for much easier steering than dry sufaces do.
-It takes tons of engine power to turn 'em. Low range/3rd gear is as fast as you will ever go.
-They will get stuck in deep, unpacked snow. You can't just blaze out into the unpacked unless there is only a couple feet on the ground.

No, I haven't figured out the whole digital picture photo sharing thing yet, so no shots are available from me at this time, but it brings out the 15 year old in anyone. People were nearly getting into accidents slowing down to gawk while it was parked on the side of the highway!
