electronic speedo

Post by krick3tt »

OK, back to the topic...The speedo has given up the ghost. Totally stopped working, not just retesting over and over. Connections are tight and the light works. I'm stumped. Thinking of replacing the original one that I removed.
I may have offended the Pinz spirits by installing non original parts...hope not.

We just fixed one this past weekend that only wanted to register when trying to start the truck, other than that it was dead. I hooked up power from a known and tested good source. We found that it worked fine after that. If you have not yet ran a single temporary power source to the speedo I would do that first. This will make sure all connectors are in good shape. It only takes a moment and the speedo should do the test.
Sure saved us a lot of time tracking down problems.

My VDO electronic speedo works great, but as of last week the odometer/trip meter is blank. Has anyone seen this before?

Mims, so what are you saying, that the connections in the target vehicle were bad or loose? So far this thread doesn't appear to much of an endorsement for the electronic speedos.

The connection at the source was broken. The connector appeared to look good but when we took it apart it had broken. Once we got a good power source (tied to the ignition switch) the speedo works fine again. Both the units in my Pinzgauers work fine so far and the wife is much happier with the MPH listing in stead of the KPH.

Thanks Mike. I've been considering one for a long time because mine quit reading accurately a long time ago. That's why I use the GPS in town. I can't even get the angle piece to break free from my speedo just to see if a direct connect would help. The upside is that it practically reads in mph instead of kph now.
