Steering box gasket?

Post by rollingpinz »

Hello

It looks like the leak is coming from the cover that has the adjustment screw. I have tightened the bolts, but am nervous about how much torque I can apply to these bolts before they break. I am also concerned about what would happen to the adjustment setting.
If I don't have to worry about how much torque I can generate with a 13mm box-end wrench, should I back off the adjustment setting or is it not enought to cause the gears to bind?
Is there some sort of gasket in there or is it Permatex-land? If it is Permatex-land, which one is recommended?

Pull the cover, clean cover and shims with brake cleaner , then a light coating of Permatex aviation 2 sealant, or the thinner Napa jv66b sealant, and back together it goes
