Post by critter »

Not sure why, but when I shift into reverse my engine dies. Runs like a champ in forward. Any ideas????

Does the actual shifting act like a cut off switch killing the engine right away or does it sputter out and die as you release the clutch?

Sounds like the reverse light switch is not wired correctly. :)

I know, this isn't the place to joke but I couldn't help it...

Since it dies like you turned the key off I'd say it's electrical. You aren't hitting a dangling set of keys in the ignition when you push up into reverse are you? That might actually do it if your switch is going bad.

I reduced my key chain on my Pinz when it would stop running for no reason when I hit a bump. It was actually bumping the switch to off. Now I have two keys on my ring, the start key and the door key.

I had a similar issue last year, turned out the large power feed wire from the starter lug to the cab was grounding out on the starter solonoid flange.
The wire chaffed, and when grounded the engine would die
I repaired the wire and then put a piece of wire conduit over it to prevent a repeat failure

Funny you should mention the keys. I have had that happen also. Wish this was as easy.
