I am looking for a tachometer for the pinz.
I had a Tiny-tach on the mog but it read only after a 1 or 2 second delay.
It would prefer to have a real time reading. There is a hole in the dash just waiting for this device, any suggestions on a make/model that will fill the bill?

Thanks,
Morris

The VDO tach that Denis recomended is excellent. There are other 24 volt mini tachs available. I found a Isspro on eBay for dirt cheap and it is working very well. There are a few pictures of it installed here on my Pinzgauer photo folder:

The only real worries other than fit is the voltage so just make sure you use an in-line resistor if you install a 12 volt model.

The VDO tach from SAV worked fine for about one month, a friend and I both have the same problem... sometimes it just jumps around!

There is no discernable power or engine rpm change, no hiccups with the engine, Haven't figured it out yet! :?:

I called SAV this morning. Their SAV1404 tach is 12v with a resistor.

I've never had any problem with mine :o

It just shows the RPM the engine is at and doesn't jump around :)

And yes it is fit with a resistor

Here how it is in the truck

Denis,
You have a fine looking pinz, very clean.
I have received the tach from SAV, Can you help me get the correct wires to the gage?

Merry Christmas to all.

My thanks go out to Denis for sending me a very detailed documentary of the installation of a tachometer (RPM).
I will be puting it in this next week, as the box is now under the tree as a present.
This forum is great, I have access to some very good information and it helps me alot to get through some of the more interesting aspecs of pinz maintenance.

AK,
Check the 2nd post for the SAV VDO part. I cannot get to the actual tach till later (for VDO number) when everyone is up and we open presents. It is currently 6:30 here and the sun is just coming up.
The size of the dash hole I measured this morning is 2 3/8''. The SAV part comes with an adapter ring that takes up the slack in the hole to fit exactly.
I will be moving to Washington (Seattle) this summer and I have some questions about a trip to Alaska, please PM me so we can chat.

Cheers, Merry Christmas
Morris

...later that same day. Packages are open and paper is everywhere.

Ok, the number is WWG 333 035 019X volt: 12

There may be a 24 version but I got it from SAV and it is 12v.

Morris
