How do you test the 4500RPM module?

Not sure if it works or not. Saw it flicker once when I first got her, but haven't seen it since. I know I'm pulling some RPM's on these mountain passes. Don't want to blow her up.

The module does a self check on key up, (watch for the light to flicker), as for operation you will have to rev it up on a straight away .
If the module goes bad it will prevent the vehicle from starting.

Jim if you don't get a flicker at start could it also just be a bad bulb?

No flicker on start up. I know the bulb is good. I'll check the connections from there to the box. Truck runs fine. What I'm afraid of is if it's not working but allows the truck to run it might go "more bad" and cause a break down (in the middle of nowhere).

Those things are pricey, but I don't want to get stranded either.

Yes, bulbs can go bad and connections can corrode.
You can take the module board out and look for any damage.
I have mine removed since I have EFI and can set rpm limits in stages now.
The module will ground out the ignition voltage as well as illuminate the warning light, the faster you try to go the less voltage to the coil when it works right.

Well I pulled the light socket and looked it over then noticed it does flash when I turn the key on.

At what speed and gear would I achive 4500 RPM?

Without doing the math, I think it is around 68-70 MPH. I've seen the light come on a few times going downhill.

The light will come on in any gear if the RPM's go above 4500, on a 6x6 it would be around 64-66mph in fifth gear with 33" tires.

Guess that's why I've never seen it come on.
