Retaining hooks/tiedowns

Post by McCall Pinz »

The original retaining hooks are pot metal and I had been told that they're prone to rust underneath. Well, I finally took the advice and went to replace them and here's what I found. They were riveted on prior to the bright green primer so it really is bare metal underneath them and plenty of rust. Luckily the rust was all surface rust and it came right off with a wire wheel. It's pretty quick to replace them all- maybe a 2 hour job after you figure out the quickest way to drilling out the rivets. I made a little stencil and sprayed them with the SAV paint. At some point the rig will get repainted and I'll get to do it all over again.
