900.4230 crush washers

Post by K31 »

The parts manual refers in many places to these crush washers for the oil drain plugs, the fuel tank drain plug, the transmission drain and filler and level check plugs, and others. If these are commercially available through a car parts store like NAPA, does anybody know of a part number? Also, some of the plugs themselves are looking a little rounded on the hex faces, and I would like to have a couple of spares. Are these readily available through any of our sources?

Thanks

Drain/Fill plugs

Post by Thomas-E »

EI has both fill (steel) and drain (brass with magnet) plugs.

Napa #704-1364 Copper ring fits these plugs.

NOTE: fill plugs are steel and should be installed with anti-seize on the threads!

Don't overtorque, you may strip out the case's aluminum threads and it may be nearly impossible to remove the plugs.

I use 15-18 ft.lbs (180-200 Inch-lbs) no leaks and not a big fight to get out. :)

Tip..
Tightening the soft copper washers hardens them, thats why you should always use new ones or anneal the old ones to make them soft again!
