heater?

can someone tell me how to start the gas heater behind the seat there is a nob on the dash with 3 positions and there is a nob on the heater that pulls out i want to know which does what? thanks.
The knob on the dash is pulled all the way out to start the heater, half way out runs the fan only. The control on the heater is for temp. Pushed in is low, pulled out is high. The heater should start within about 20s after you pull the knob out, the fan runs straight away and the light on the dash comes on when the heater is running. If you listen you will hear it fire up. These old heaters have a bit of a reputation, I would advise not to run the heater while you drive and to have a good fire extinguisher on hand at all times. If it doesn't work its probably not worth fixing.
Oh and check the exhaust is in tact so fumes are not getting in the cab!
