my springs are shot can they be reconditioned? ive heard of shops that reheat and stretch them whats the downside of repaired springs im assuming they dont last.

Springs can be reconditioned and the success and durability of the finished job is dependant upon who is doing the job.
I used to get an old bloke who had been in the business for years to do them for me, but after he died a young guy took over and they were never very good after that.

Nowdays I tend to have new springs made.
They can't make variable units easily (the wire diameter reduces towards the outer coils) but springs made of consistant diameter wire are relatively cheap to get done and I'm very pleased with my last set.
I think the last set cost around $180Aus for two.
