Pinzgauer 712M for Sale in Texas

Post by chacaocop1 »

Time has come to find a better home for my beloved 712M. I bought it 12 years ago and I am the second owner (If you count the Swiss Army as one).

Now the Good things:

I have done quite a few upgrades such as tie rod ends, civilian distributor, spark plugs and cables, pertronix ignitor, Electronic VDO gauges (Speedometer, Tachometer and Fuel) Rebuild carburetors less than two months ago. I repaint it in desert tan and at time I replaced the passenger side panel due to rust in it (only the panel was affected). I rhino lined the back of the pinzgauer, Put brand new Hella headlights with 100/90 watts bulbs, the doors were upgraded with aluminum panels to match the floor ones, all bolts and nuts were replaced with stainless steel nuts (that alone was more than 700 bucks).

The truck also has been fitted with Diesel stop lights for better visibility and yes they work perfectly.

I removed the gas tank and send it to be relined internally since the red film was falling apart. The new film is an plastic one that has lifetime guarantee, Tires have 90% thread, and I will also give you all the replaced parts so you have them as spares. I will toss an additional rear door from a 710K (yes with glass and all) since I wanted to put a hard top one day (that I never did).

I will also add BN4 heater unit removed from a 710K which I wanted to install and never did when I moved south and had no need for it.

I am asking 23K.

The bad:

It needs new axle boots they are the original yellow ones and are cracked.

The Ugly:

It needs a new top. The clear plastics are brittle. I asked at an upholstery place and they were charging me 20 bucks per window. So 20 x 5 = 100 bucks to make it look decent.
Thanks.

Good day to all.

I have a person interested in buying my Pinz. We negotiated the price and the buyer states he is in Portland.

He is asking me to use "escrow.com" for the transaction. Has anyone used that site for online car sales? Is it safe?

Let me know of your experiences/opinions in the matter.

Thanks.

That is a legit site as far as I have heard but I have never used it.
I usually just use paypal

This is from the Escrow website :
Buyer and Seller agree to terms - Either the Buyer or Seller begins a transaction. After registering at Escrow.com, all parties agree to the terms of the transaction.
Buyer pays Escrow.com - The Buyer submits a payment by approved payment method to our secure Escrow Account, Escrow.com verifies the payment, the Seller is notified that funds have been secured 'In Escrow'.
Seller ships merchandise to Buyer - Upon payment verification, the Seller is authorised to send the merchandise and submit tracking information. Escrow.com verifies that the Buyer receives the merchandise.
Buyer accepts merchandise - The Buyer has a set number of days to inspect the merchandise and the option to accept or reject it. The Buyer accepts the merchandise
Escrow.com pays the Seller - Escrow.com releases funds to the Seller from the Escrow Account.

Only thing I see is Step 3 & 4 about you shipping it and buyer has days to reject it if not happy. Who pays for shipping and insurance back?? What if he takes it for a joy ride off road and busts something etc?
Not saying that will happen but buying sight unseen may be tricky.
Would be best if he had a friend or a trusted party inspect it and report back to him and then when they buy they buy!
Just my opinion
Good luck!

I have bought and sold a lot of cars, and I smell a rat with this deal. There is no way I would let a vehicle leave my house until it is paid for in full. If the buyer balks, then he's not legitimate. There will be another buyer, patience pays off eventually. My 2 cents- don't do it!

Don't take a check. Theo Hanson cured me of that method after a deal with a 710M years ago, and he never did make the check good. The DA wouldn't touch the case, either.

I have always done direct bank transfers or cash. Since your sale was listed on Craig's list, be aware that it will be targeted by scammers. Most scammers won't speak with you on the phone or in person. Did you communicate via email, text, or phone?

FYI, I saw your 712 and was very interested but the timing is off. I need to sell a jeep and vette first.

Nope. Wait for a more solid, or sure transaction. If the buyer goes south, or changes their mind, you will be left holding the bag...

I bought my 710K from an awesome gentleman in Canada. Me Florida. I paypal sent him the deposit. He sent working video of the vehicle to confirm he had it. We made the deal, I sent him a cashier check via mail for the remaining total and after the checked cleared we met at the border and I drove it home.

Moral of the story; If the money is not in your pocket, do not do it. Scammers are very smart. I have seen it with other antique vehicles I have have bought and sold. Also, just because you have the cashier check in your hand does not mean it will cash. They can stop the funds before you know it has been done. Always wait for the funds to clear.

Good luck...
