Reduced Price - Aluminum 5 Bar Rear Top For Sale - $1000

Post by Haf-e »

I have decided to put up for sale the aluminum rear top I built for my Pinz 710M. It is made from a single sheet of 5 bar type aluminum plate - 3/16" thick by 5 foot wide by about 9 feet long. I curved the sheet and welded it to a curved internal aluminum frame - it then rests on the front a rear roll bars like the original tarp cover does so it doesn't add significantly to the overall height - the welded on frame work fits between the front and rear roll bars. The roof is super strong due to the welded curved frame under it - its all aluminum and I can move it myself - so perhaps 100 lbs total with the side curtains? There is a foam rubber type ceiling material I added that keeps the roof from dripping when I used to sleep in the back when camping.

The aluminum has a dull / mat / flat type finish which looks good on a Pinzgauer - but it could be polished I suppose if you wanted too.

I did add two grab rails along each edge - they are also aluminum and are welded on - I used this to attach a roof tent and a solar array for a while. It is great for tying down items on the roof also or just to grab when climbing up the sides. These rails didn't add to the overall height actually since the roof is curved - this was important for avoiding higher costs on the local ferries her in the PNW and Canada. I also have put two lengths of 1 inch steel EMT conduit into the grab rails from the back to make a nice awning / shade cover support.

I am including the two original pinzgauer side curtains which roll up. They were painted black using Krylon vinyl paint which works really well. I will also include the matching black front edge flaps with it. There is also a very nice glass marine hatch that measures 14 x 14 inches installed which does not leak - it could easily be replaced with a RV type hatch with a fan - they use the same size opening but would add to the height and be more vulnerable to branches, etc.

The rear was set up with two side plates that held water cans and a center glass hinged "hatch" that lifted up - it could also be easily done with a side opening upper door section with Andre can supply from what I understand. I actually want to keep the rear hatch for my new top I am making - but, if desired, I would sell it too. I'll include the two rear side plates of 5 bar aluminum with the top if desired.

I do have one more 5 foot x 5 foot piece of the 5 bar aluminum left and some additional pieces that I would consider selling as well - It is enough to make a front roof section with it that would be separately removable. The rear aluminum top works very well with the original front top BTW - although the antenna mounting plate on the front roll bar might require some trimming of the aluminum rear top - on my Pinz I had removed that part to reduce the overall height.

So - I am asking $1000 (reduced price) for the rear top with the side curtains included and the two 5 bar aluminum plates for the back. The rear glass hatch would be extra / negotiable - along with the additional 5'x5' sheet of 5 bar aluminum.

The roof is located north of Seattle but I could also bring it to the NW Sprinterfest just south of Portland in May, Sheridan in June or to the NW MogFest in August as I should be at all of those events. Shipping is possible but probably would be too expensive. I might also be driving my sprinter down to CA in late Summer so that is another possibility.

I have few photos of it on the Pinz and my truck is currently apart for repairs in the garage. Hopefully it will be out in a month or so.

Here are a couple of shots - one with solar panels mounted on the side which were covered up if I rolled down the fabric - it also shows the roof tent on top. The second is with a aload of firewood in the back and the sides were loaded up also.

I'll check for more photos on my back-up drive later today.

Would be pretty tough to find a sheet of 5 bar aluminum to recreate this one piece roof!
Good luck with the sale.

Do you till have the 5 foot x 5 foot piece of the 5 bar aluminum or the extra pieces that you mentioned? Might be interested if it can come to Indiana.

I do have the 5' by 5' piece of 5 bar aluminum and a few other pieces - but I am reluctant to sell it without selling the rear top first as it is ideal for making a front top to match.

If I sell the rear top and still have the 5' by 5' piece I will let you know. I think Fedex will actually ship something that large actually. Would need to check on that though.
