How's the "goat" feel about being worn? They kinda smelly and coarse from the little I know about them.

Dave, like I've said before, I AM A WUSS when it comes to cold. Heh...heh....it was 59 F here yesterday morning and we were wearing light jackets untill it got to about 70 F.

Snow is nice though.....on TV.

I worked with a Canadian years ago that his wife and him would go to the beach in the dead of winter and sun bathe while the locals would jog in long sweats!
When it's in the 50s in So Cal, the chill cuts me to the bone, but when visiting in Idaho, all I need is a flannel shirt in the 20s. :?

Nothing wrong with being a wuss :D .... I'd lived in a climate controlled bubble if I could. ..... I know Erik, you'll start by donating a plastic bag for over my head.

I kind of like the cold and snow, but not this early! Summer is way too short as it is. We already got gipped out of basically the whole month of June. Mid November, let the snow fly.

I'm headed back to Ohio for a family visit next week and it's supposed to be in the 70's.

That being said if it does snow a decent amount here, I'll have to go out and play this weekend.

Good day all :D

I am finally backed home. What a trip this was. 8)

First I would like to compliment you USA guys for having such a great country. Where I have been, I have met only the nicest people. :D
My girlfriend and I made really goods friends all the way on this trip, even if our English is not the best all the time. My girlfriend is learning fast and it did her a lot of good to be immersed in English speaking environment.

The trip back was uneventful and the only mechanical I got is that the odometer quite working the last day. :? I will have to open it up and see what is wrong with it. The Pinz is still running strong and I can tell you now that it is very reliable. I added up all my numbers on the gas consumption and I averaged 14 miles per gallon on the whole trip, this is with a fully loaded Pinz and trailer, I think it is pretty good. Like some said before just make sure the oil is at the right level in all the transmissions and in the engine and the Pinz will get you there. Not fast, not as comfortable as the new cars but it will get you there in a way that nothing else can do. Don’t forget the proverb: the road is long but the Pinz is patient. One other good thing about the Pinz on a long trip like that is that it will bring you a lots of thumbs up and you will get to meet a lot of nice people. 8)

This was a great adventure and as soon as I will have done some cleaning up in the pictures I took I will post some of the ones I think are the best.

Thanks for all your nice words during my trip and your interest for it too.

Regards

Denis

Denis, glad you and the girlfriend made it home safely and the Pinz came through for you. It must have been an awesome adventure and I'm happy you had the opportunity to come to the US and see we aren't as bad as some would have you believe. Just ordinary people who have extraordinary liberties and opportunities.

I'm looking forward to your pictures.

Cheers,

Andy

Sorry Denis  , but I guess I was looking in the wrong area for your story. WOW what a trip. Beautiful scenery and having to re-build your motor...well if it was going to happen it's probably best it happened there in the beginning.

Like my trip I didn't even hesitate. People back home thought I was nuts. 5000 miles in the dead of winter - worst storms in years - in a truck you bought sight unseen over the internet. Guess that's just the Rebel in us eh!!. Love and adventure.

Glad to see you got back safe. Maybe we will have to meet down there some day soon.

Great looking truck and trailer too. You always seem to do things RIGHT.

Again I appologize for not keeping up, but I know you met some very nice people along your route. The states sure have some different country ...beautiful rugged - unforgiving - sounds like my WIFE...tee hee

You are right about the Pinz though she draws a crowd and a ton of thumbs up.

Cheers - Jer Bear

I just came across this series of messages and those great photos of Moab and I too am envious! It got me thinking that probably most of us on this forum would be happy to host traveling Pinz owners who might find themselves passing through their part of the country.

Should there be some mechanism on this forum where you could post your availability to provide accomodations, technical assistance (garage space or a lift?) or other help if a fellow Pinz owner was traveling near by?

Of course I don't know why anyone would be traveling through Houston with their Pinzgauer but I guess it could happen if you were on your way to some cool off roading mecca like Moab....

When I had the Mog, one of the guys on the Mog site had compiled a pamphlet for those that wanted to volunteer, it contained information regarding their location and what help they could offer. It included information to get to the vendors and some very knowledgable mog wrenchers, along with their contact info.
If someone traveling needed a place to park for the night or get other help or even just work on their vehicle they had a few places to go. It was a great deal and took him lots of personal time to gather and compile information for fellow moggers. I haven't checked into the site for a long time and don't know how it is updated but keeping it in the mog (now it is in the pinz) was a bit of comfort.

UniMog and Pinzgauer folks have a lot in common and are a great bunch of very helpful people. Just check out one of the 'Fests' in your area and you will meet them.

Happy trails,

Hey Vince,

Would it be possible to add page in the forum with a map (perhaps several as we have members all over the world) where a member of the forum could note their address with a colored dot?

If you're headed to Tennessee (Moab, Lake Charles, Iceland etc. etc), you could immediately know who on the forum lives there or along the route if you had problems or just wanted to stop in and say howdy.

Is there interest in such a resource?

I'm pretty sure the other big site for US military vehicles has that feature. Might be a good idea if it isn't a big problem for Vince.

I am not sure what you were refering to as the other site for US military vehicles but I have included a link to one that I know of.

This link is to a map of the members of Steel Soldiers. It can be used as an example. It is the old site, the new one does not have this feature.

What he is refering to is a "Safe Haven" database. The Moggers have one with people posting info and what resources they have... from just meeting to having some workshop space to make unexpected repairs, plus dealers and repair shops are listed.

A downloadable and printable database would be best for those that don't have mobile web access while traveling.

It would be pretty cool.
