Hi Shawn,
A good starting point for your search would be Scott at Expedition Imports or Leo Castiglione (US agent for Robert Prokschi).
Do you know the cause of the damage? I'd want to know that before putting in a new one.
Cheers,
Steve

You could always go for a new "electronic" version and "hide it" inside the old case. I think there are probably people out there who could rebuild it by re-winding the coils with new wire. Do these Regulator have a fuse built into them or do they only rely on the external fuse?

An electronic version inside might be a good idea. I did that for my oval window VW. John at technik responded today. $170 pounds plus shipping for a nos one.

I doubt that would work- i'd go with an original. I might have one around- i can check this weekend if you want.
Re: Haflinger regulator fried
The rectifier would work in turning Alternating current in to Direct current BUT as the Dynastart already puts out Direct Current it would be a bit superfluous to the electrical system.
Somewhere like this is what you want:-
http://www.dynamoregulatorconversions.com/
If you read through their web site, they do a self fit kit for the regulator system.
There are obviously quite a few web pages devoted to this subject so you can do a lot of reading if you want.

Wouldn't the guts of a standard 12v Bosch unit work? Cheap and plentiful, since all air cooled VW have them..

Needs to be 20 amps or you burn the brushes in the dinamo. The early VW ones are 30 amps.

Sorry to resurrect... Are we sure the early 30 amp units will not work (Bosch 30-019)? Jim mentions running it on his Haf here: http://www.thehaflinger.com/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=3048
