I'm cleaning up my recent Pathfinder purchase. I noticed it has a persistent oil leak from the center of the engine bottom - right at the seam. it leaks while sitting.
I originally thought it was the round gasket for the sump cover. I cleaned and replaced that gasket, and the leak is still there. The drip comes from the flat section of casting that hangs the lowest, directly below the main pulley. I do not see any oil leaking from the main pulley, nor anything flowing from the sides... it really appears like the oil is leaking from the center seam on the bottom of the engine.
the three studs that hold the engine halves together are very snug.
I plan to clean the bottom once again, and use some talcum powder to investigate.
Has anyone had the center seam leak in the past? is there a gasket?

Re: engine leak from block seam?
Case halves sealed with aviation sealant just like the pinzgauer. Lots of work. Best suggestion is to pin point leak and then patch with oil resistant RTV after cleaning.
I am currently repairing a 72 Pathfinder that came in boxes after sitting apart for 3 years.
