Haflinger Choke Cable

So I am running a new choke cable.
How the heck do I get it through the 2 tiny grommet holes from underneath into engine bay??
It would be pretty simple but between the 2 holes in the body work the section it runs through has a nice plate so cable just goes into a massive void.
Going to try some small straight rod and pull it but if anyone has done it I would appreciate any and all tips!
Thx,
Dan

Hi Dan,
There is supposed to be a length of steel tubing which is welded at each end to the platform brace and the firewall. See the photo below. The choke cable runs through this tube. The heat shield plate is spot welded over this area.
If the tube is not there then it has likely rotted away. You could either replace the tube with coated steel fuel line (as I did) or just "fish" the cable through using some drill rod or wood dowel. The second photo shows how I sealed the tube & cable with heat shrink to prevent water entry. If you replace the tube fill it with silicone grease (Dow 111 for example) to make cable entry easier and prevent rust.
Cheers,
Steve

Once again THANKS
I thought what I saw were rubber grommets going into a void under the heat shield but it must be the tube and just plugged up with goop and grime.
Will blast it out and see how that works
Super! and Very helpful pics!
