On the road again

Post by Ugo »

I finally had the front LH hub repaired.
The obvious failure was an oil leak, which ended up in both inner and outer ball bearings needing replacement (besides the oil seal of course).
The bill I paid was terrible ...
- 8 hours labour (all bolts were rusty in my ex-Swedish Pinz, and extracting the gear wasn't an easy affair too)
- 210 euros (about 250 USD) for parts.
Luckily, the RH hub looks recently overhauled and has no play.
The most expensive part was, by far, the outer ball bearing. It has quite an an odd size and I my mechanic said he had to order it to Magna-Steyr.
Does anybody confirm? Or, is there an alternate source for that bearing?

Cheers from Italy,
Ugo
