716M Real World Top Speed?

Since I've been unable to nail down a satisfactory way to get a 710M shipped to the Puch factory in Europe for a ground-up restoration and then shipped back into the USA without possibly arousing the ire of overzealous customs officials, I decided to look into a more Europe-centric solution. Ergo, I've found a way to legally purchase, register, and store a completely restored 716M in Ireland that I can use when overseas.

So now I'm wondering what I should rationally expect for a 716M's sustained top speed. I know a highway is no place for a Pinzi, but driving from the UK down to North Africa and eventually over into India will, unavoidably, involve highway travel.

A 716 should cruise comfortably at 65mph and touch 75 in short bursts. :D

And would the four speed auto or 5 speed manual be a better transmission?

Auto every time, the problem with the turbo diesel is if you're in the wrong gear and it 'drops' off the turbo you're dead in the water, it just won't go! the auto masks this by kicking down into a lower gear, the manual box can really catch you out if you're not careful!!

No problems with the BMW engine it's on the ZF HP 22 auto box plus it's chipped to 230 bhp! it cruises at 75 mph, the steering gets a bit light above 80 :D
