Michael,

Wow how strange, we have seriously been considering a move to Colorado, looked at some properties while there a few weeks ago, its amazing what we can get there, same size as our house here in Ca with like an acre or more for around $150,000.00 and up. either way we are putting a fire sale sign on the house and met with estate sellers yesterday to liquidate the contents and get us out from under this elephant of a house and California taxes, so Michael we will have to set up some mini runs out east.....

Sounds good to me. Heck, we could have a testing ground in the back yard for Jim to make sure everything works!

Honestly, it's a day drive to Santa Fe ( a long day, about 12 hours) so I'll still be coming out for Mogfest and similar events. Of course, Moab will only be about 5-6 hours away if I move. :)

Have you checked out New Mexico? Santa Fe is awesome, great off road scenery, snow in the winter, beautiful weather throughout the year and relatively inexpensive real estate. We're looking at a 5 bed, 3 bath, 3200 sq ft house on 5 acres for less than $400K! And that's in a good area!

We found a nice older house in a good neighborhood 11,000 sf lot 2700 sf house with full basement for about $225K but we bought it last year, prices now are a bit less in certain areas. ...and there is real weather, all 8 seasons (they are mixed up so it seems like more than standard) may have snow tonight.
Yeah, days drive to Moab. I have just met the guys from Indiana (Middlebury) at LinDen, nice folks. Probably see them at the Treffen in July, they are coming back for that.

So what's going here? Is the Southern California contingent all moving out to the midwest?

Morris, you need to make up your mind. :)

BTW folks, it's official. Barring some events out of my control, I'm going to be moving out to Santa Fe this summer.

Michael,

Well we are making it happen too, Grage sale and an Estate sale ar being planned as we speak, the house is going up at a FIRE SALE price, properties in Colorado are being looked at and considered, and does it ever make us feel good, almost out of the most taxed state in the nation, will we miss some things? sure you bet, but then we can always visit and just pay the taxes for when we are here (sales tax) can't wait to get to a simpler life style.

Well, looks like New Mexico is a no-go. My wife and I spent a week there and found out that the schools in Santa Fe pretty much suck and that there isn't much for kids to do other than go to museums or go camping / hiking. While that sounds like fun, it's awful tough to try to adapt to that environment after living in San Diego for the past 20 years.

Guess I'm staying in San Diego. Maybe that's not such a bad thing.

Texas could use another Pinz guy or two. Just about any size population center your little heart desires and not anywhere near expensive (or liberal) as Ca. Wouldn't hurt to practice a little spanglish, but San Diego is close enough to TJ where you already know more than enough.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do.
