San Francisco to Cabo San Lucas trip

Post by Picasso »

Ok so I failed nice with the Kansas to SF trip now watch me attempt to go south. Doing it in a 712 I hear it's 32+C this time south of the boarder. This time around you can watch me live http://bit.ly/agQLFQ I'm going to head out in about 6-7 days.

I had a low of -30c on the Kansas trip, GOOD TIMES.

Perhaps it's my morbid curiosity or just love of adventure, but I enjoyed the posts of your last trip.
Looking forward to this one, and wishing you better fortune!

TIME TICKING

Post by Picasso »

Count down to blast off 2 days, Attempted an EASY tail light swap and now I got smoke under the dash from melting connectors on brake switch. GOOD TIMES. But the truck is all set if you dont count the brake lights. Posted about that in tech section. I'm out of Idea's.

24volt 175watt solar installed on roof
engal fridge
300watt morning star prosine
25gals of water
working turn and running lights

The fun part was swapping all 6 tires with my other 712!

From memory, nobody down Cabo way uses their brakes anyway. So no one will notice you've got no brake lights.

But perhaps things have changed more recently. Is there even a Squid Row there anymore??

Take care, and have fun. Like Ed, I'm looking forward to the posts.

For reference if you find yourself in Cabo and in a parts bind we do have an outlet that carries a pretty good supply of Unimog 404 spares for their tour operation. There is a bit of crossover with the electrical, starting, ignition, carburation, systems.

Have a good trip.

A huge thanks to Jim@goatworks for setting us up with a tune up. We have had zero trouble with the Pinzgauer. Well we did get two tires slashed for parking in the wrong place. Good 5-6 slash/punctures in the sidewalls. Mexicans love the pinzgauer, we even drove into a VW meetup. Top temp so far has been 113F. I think next time we wont take MRE's or camo clothing with us. Is so hard to tell them we are NOT military.

These folks drove down here to look into exchanging the 712 for one of my boats. (The adventure continues.)
After some cogitatin' the deal didn't work....so..
I am going to set my 40' Ketch onto the market priced at what it'll take for me to buy a 712M.
Stay tuned..
