Newbie to Pinz

Hello all. I recently acquired a '75 model 710M Pinzgauer. I happened up on this quite by accident -- I went to a construction equipment auction and there she sat. I did a quick Google search and fell in love with it. I got it for about half of what I figured it would go for. She cranks, runs, operates, and stops great. I don't understand the windshield wipers yet though -- when you turn on the switch on the dash the wiper motor spins, but the mechanism doesn't "engage". I haven't dug deeper to see if the gears have stripped out or if something just isn't happening... any ideas?

I pretty sure that I'll be selling my old CJ-7 Jeep as this thing has a much larger WOW factor. People around here don't have a clue what it is. I can tell that this forum will be my main source of information for "things Pinz".

Cheers!

Congrats on the find!

Wiper problem is either the main gear is stripped or the linkages are not connected. Main gear may be available from the forum sponsor, Expedition Imports or from Swiss Army Vehicles.

Please add your location to your profile - we all like to know where fellow Pinz owners are.

Paul-

Thanks for the reply. I'm in northeast Louisiana and I updated my profile.

The linkage appears to be connected, and I removed the cover and saw the the wiper motor is spinning when the switch is turned on... so I'll bet your assessment is correct about the drive gear. I'll check it out. :D

This is a wonderful machine! Now I've got to jump through the hoops to get a title & tag but it shouldn't be too bad -- I did it last year with my '51 M37 PowerWagon military truck that I got with just a bill of sale.

Cheers!

Welcome here ! Ask questions and share knowledge !

The wiper motor has a weak point; this es the culprit:
Image

it often suffers from loss of teeth. if you hear the motor spinning, but the lever does not move; you know the reason...

I linked the pic to an aftermarket shop in Switzland, where i bought the gear from (http://www.pinzgauer-techshop.ch); it is not available as original spare part.
Maybe Scott ( Expedition Imports) or SAV have it, too
Cheers

Another popular solution is to retrofit a more modern wiper motor. SAV had the kit for quite some time but it now shows out of stock. My wiper motor totally packed up, so I'm going to be reaching out to them soon to see what the deal is. Hopefully they get more soon

The camo is all decals. The front is quite faded too. I have a Dustless Blaster so I plan to give it a good, flat, olive drab paint job next spring.
I really like the Tuff River tops but I'll have to plan carefully for that.

Tuff River makes good tops. Haven't seen one that was poorly made. They also do rafts so you might have to call them and schedule your top so as to not get caught in the river season.

The camo isn't horrible. Be careful that removal could make it quite a challenge to make perty once again.

Ray did my top and it talking to him he said he will do Pinz tops all year long.
This is partly do to his health and just remember that regardless of time of year, these are hand made 1 x 1 and can take a LONG time! Ray does not like to make changes either - I inquired about 3-4 design changes/add-ons and we settled on zero changes :?
Mine was 6 months but I was not in a rush and I had him use a custom fabric that I sourced.

Nice truck and welcome to the madness

Nice truck. Change the fluids, get some new tires and enjoy for now. Worry about the paint once you catch your breath!

Did the truck come with door tops?

Yes it came with both door tops, tire chains, an operators manual that I can't read, and the factory shovel.
No jack or lug wrench though.
I found a nice Pinz Shop Service Manual (in English) on Amazon and I got that.
It's missing the two troop seats on the left side.
