Not much safety in a Haflinger

I figure it needs to happen to a few of us, simply based on probability...

Somehow i flipped one of my haflingers while traveling on a normal neighborhood road...

Sadly, i have no idea how, as i have complete amnesia from the incident. Tire marks show i skidded for some reason. It appears that i have a small amount of road rash on the drivers rub rails where the haflinger fliped to its side before going off road. The roll bar is bent 90 degrees above the seats. The driver windshield mount is crushed. Windsheield frame is bent.

The haflinger wound up on top of me fracturing my left pelvis. I also hit my head creating a traumatic brain injury on the left hand side. I was in ICU for a couple of days before i came to. All said and done, huge hospital bill, a partially torn up haflinger, and a loss of a few IQ points.

So... long message short - be careful gents. These dam haflingers are fun, but the drivers are fragile!

I hope you and your Haflinger recover well.

Sounds like you hit the brakes and one locked up at the rear sending you sideways and the roll over. That is one of the things on my list to fix - one of my rear brakes locks and tries to send the vehicle into a slide if it is not corrected quickly.

I agree with your title statement "Not much safety in a Haflinger". I can get up to 90kph downhill and when you do you quickly realize how mortal you are.

Its funny that some always want to run their haflinger faster by tuning up the engine or gearing while none ever think about that the damn thing also needs to stop when going so fast

I think I am going to look into putting a heavier duty roll bar on mine and 4 point seat belts. Although it has four seats I have yet to take any one else in the back two seats - partly because they arn't finished, but they are not finished because I don't have a reason to carry people in them!

I am also looking at replacing wheel cylinders after about 6 years use, just because they are starting to show signs of sticking / seizing / not working as well as they should.

Scary and agree, not much safety and time to double check things and take it slow(er)!
