I ordered a pair of Bestop Trailmax II Pro seats in black denim, TruckLite LED headlamps, Dual Marine CD stereo deck and a CCD backup camera system with a 7" monitor to replace those parts in my volvo from Amazon today! I will post pics as the items arrive and I start working on it. I pulled off the old seat covers today and spent some time vacuuming out the pounds of dirt under them. ugh. I sprayed some corrosionX on a variety of places like the door hinges, seat slider rails, door catches, etc. Putting her on a lift tomorrow to get under there and do some basic care and feeding, tighten the fan belt for the mechanical fan, etc. I need to replace/reconnect the gauges next also; the speedo and fuel work ok, but the temp/volts guage is not sending. It does have a small tach. which works, though it is different from the others.

So the work begins!

UPDATE: Lots of new stuff happening with the C303, wanted to share some pics!

Image
This shows the new LED headlights, the new marine stereo deck, the new 110lb. pressurized sandblasting unit, new body panel tool set, walnut and aluminum oxide blasting medium

Image
This is a couple of shots of the new seats. They are Bestop Trailmax Pro II suspension recliners in oiled canvas w/ heavy denim inserts. They fit really nice and are about 5" high on the sides, though the center of the seat is almost the same height as the stock seats.

Image
The fit and height of these is really a nice fit. They are not mounted yet, but I will be using the old seat rails and doing a bit of welding on them to fit, so add another 3/4" to the height. The seats (thankfully) have 3 different sets of mounting holes to choose from. I got them from Amazon for about 274$ each.

Image
Had to share this ingenious security latch on the back door. The latch no longer shuts, though it does still function and the hinges and slider are in great shape. MASTERLOCK: When you really really want to shut the damn door and keep it closed.

These next shots show some more of the interior and various areas of damage that I need to address:

Image
Here is the back inside. I have removed some nasty old plywood shelves and supports, wire side shelves. You can see the original license plate from Norway also. The 4 bags under the bench seat are the heavy duty tire chains.

Image
Top left: The remains of the awesome particle board antenna mount. Its literally just crumbled away to almost nothing, though the steel behind it is in decent shape. Top Right: right side of back door frame, showing where the top panel meets the tub, rusted at the seam but only on the corner for the most part. The tub itself was replaced a few years ago and is in really nice shape. Two bottom pics show the general condition of the interior pegboard panels, which are all warped and need to come out. I will use them for making patterns for the new ones.

Image
These pics show the worst damage. Top Left: hole inside the drivers door channel up near the hip. Top Right: Worst spot on the truck is this hole under the base of the small window behind the drivers door, where the top and cabin meet. Bottom Left: The drivers side door channel in the cabin is really in bad shape, needs to be cut out and replaced with decent steel. Bottom Right: The seat bracket bottom, showing the years of greasy dirt thats caked under them. Oyveh! Need some degreaser there.

Image
Some various parts: seat brackets out and waiting for the welds and an extra doghouse cover, extra set of old doors, some obvious rust, but still a source for bits, the old seats are in rough shape, as well as the external bump rails, which I will replace with black PVC square rails.

I have also been searching for some welding equipment and was considering a mig welder and a plasma cutter, but I have decided after much research that I am going to get this: http://www.multiplaz.com/about The MultiPlaz 3500, which uses water, alcohol and electricity only but replaces mig/tig/soldering/brazing/Ac,OXtorch/plasma cutter with one unit. No arc, no UV, no flash, no fumes, no gas, low consumable consumption and low power consumption. I will report more on it after I get it, but definately worth taking a look if you have the time. Anyhow, thats all for now, but I will keep posting as I get into it and prepare for the work ahead. It's the rainy season here in WA, so I need to hang some canvas around the truck shed to give me some kind of walls to work inside of before I can really get working on it. I am, for now, a happy man!

Having been born and raised in the Puget Sound area I’m curious when is it not the rainy season?

There are about 3 days in July, usually right after the 4th weekend, and you're back at work.
