Would a haflinger fit on a standard UHaul car trailer?

Post by audiocontr »

The uHaul trailers are set for standard width vehicles. I'm concerned that the Haf is too narrow. Has anyone tried?

may be a better idea. Would it fit in a 5'x9' space?

For a Haffy to fit inside, figure on a 5x10 trailer. Depending on bumpers, they're a minimum of 115" long.
But they do fit in a full size pickup with the tailgate down

I just did it a month ago - you need the 6x12 trailer.
The way they designed the rear ramp/rear of the trailer you have 1" on each side going in.
Once in you have lots of room and they have good tie down rings on the floor.
The others are to small due to the high sides
The car hauler works (did that one last year) but the ramps are wide and only 1/2 the tire is on it - bit scary so I did the 6x12 to make it simple
Here is pic in the 6x12

Not a very good driver,eh?

Haffies are under 54" wide.
With stock rims and tires fit between the wheelwells of a FS truck.
I picked up my Haf with a Dodge 14 years ago. Back it on and use ramps to the bed.
Since then I have had several different utility trailers , for 5x8 , 5x10 and my current favorite a old Zieman 5x10 tilt bed ( Jim would love to get his hands on  )
The Zieman is super light and I pulled it a few times with a Mighty Mite on it behind a Highlander Hybrid
Shown nested in my 83" x 14' hauler

A guy showed up to a couple of my Gathering w/ a Haf in the back of a Tundra... I wouldn't want to do it, but he did...

Don't you still have the hauler for the 712? If the tracks are too wide, add some 3/4" plywood flooring... the Haf is only 1500 to 1700 lbs.

I was looking to see if I had any pics of the Haf in the Dodge ( been so long ago, and a few computers back), but these are of it with the Zieman.

But I'll look further

yup, i have the 16' 712 trailer, and loaded the center with some lumber to allow smaller vehicles. My trailer is pretty heavy at about 2200#. Add 1500# for the haf and im close to 4000#

I could pull my trailer empty to NoVa, and bring it back. I drive my superduty with brake controller for that trailer. I was hoping instead to drive my company car (Ford Flex) and pull a trailer back. I'd pay the $100 fee to not drive my superduty 16 hours. :o

At a quick glance, the Flex only has a 2000lb towing cap., and other than the lightest of trailer, you'd be over the limit.

You could be adventurous and fly down and drive the Haf back.

Much shorter distance for you than the guy I had met that drove a Haffy from New York to San Francisco in the '70's.
And you won't have the Rockies to go over.

8 x 5 box trailer - if it needs to side inside at the front - maybe a 9' long trailer.

Or you could go the other way and put it inside a Van, something like a long wheel base high top Merc sprinter or Ford transit.

Plenty of video on the net showing people putting their Haflinger inside a van.

The flex towing capacity stats are a little confusing. It will pull 4000 with the right set up.

The way I read it, it was a UHaul specific question

i assume that a 8' box is required? Would it fit onto a 6.5' box? Seems like it would damage the tailgate
