Has anyone caught wind of the "repower" offer or program from Steyr for certain vehicles, using this 150hp engine (which I need!)? I'm sure the price is like a new car but it's a nice dream to have.

Nice dream indeed! Thanks for sharing.
I wonder (and I have serious doubts) if they offer a conversion "kit" to install in a first generation (gas engine) Pinzgauer...

From the looks of it, its only made for conventional engine bays. It reminds me a lot of the 617A 5cyl diesel in my Gwagen. This would be an amazing upgrade to that. I bet I'd end up with 26mpg and could cruise at 80mph, uphill.

Re: Steyr repower engine?
I have met the team at the May event at Hellsklamm.
The kit is designed for the P80 Pnzgauers and the W460 G Wagons.
The kit consists of a M14 Steyr engine and an automatic gearbox, and is listed at about 20k€ for the G-Wagon and 29k€ for the Pinz.
There are currently no such plans for the Petrol Pinzgauers.

I saw these and some discussion on them after the event in May.
Shame it does not bolt up to a stock 460 tranny

ehh, as an employee of an engine manufacturer, its a tricky space. Yes, we have technologies that can improve power, but we also have enhanced emissions requirements. The emissions is a substantial cost of the development of that engine compared to what it replaces.
Had you logged 20k miles a year, i'd be the first in line to reduce emissions. .. Pleasure toys like ours.... well someday they will be no more. For some reason, im morally able to look the other way

Re: Steyr repower engine?
The issue with my motor, as great as the infamous 617A is, is that it's getting really old now and all of them have high mileage, most super high. The ideal Gwagen engine is probably the 606A but these too are getting hard to find and often have 200K+ miles on them.
Something about being able to install a new engine like this would basically renew the Gwagen to the point of a practical everyday car and would last for a couple decades. It's very appealing to me that you could know the real history of your engine, know each oil change and be that much more confident on 1000 mile long trips. People buy chromed G's everyday for $100K. If I could, I'd take this one down to the frame, rebuild everything, install this engine and spend more like $50K total. It would be a new car, and be worth well more than I spent.
Dreams.
