Evapo Rust

Post by Derrickbwg »

I got a truck that was a mess behind the levers. One cylinder was blown out, one stuck, all the rubber was disintegrated leaving an 1/8 inch of brake fluid goo underneath. I had read somewhere here about evapo rust and bought a 5 gallon container. Bought one new cylinder and rebuild kits for the other two and thought I'd try the evapo rust out for the first time on the parts. I think I left everything in for about 4 or 5 hours. Rinsed them off and they look like the top pick. I threw some tools and other pinz parts in the basket as well. It doesn't bother paint, rubber or plastic. The box that the levers mount to had rust under the welds and it came right off And the paint was fine, I dried it off and painted it right after.

I bought some of it in gel form as well. Its like kids slime but tackier. It clings to vertical surfaces no problem and works about the same as the liquid. I tried it on the floor pan and it took away the rust down to bare metal (whats left at least). Will be nice to just paint it on the underside surfaces that need it...wait 2 hours and hose off. I bought some of their rust inhibitor but dont have much faith in it. Paint I think being a better option.

Id recommend the evapo rust.....so simple and safe to use and great results.

Like you I've had good luck using Evapo Rust. Another thing that is great for removing rust is apple cider vinegar, takes a little longer however sometimes easier to source.
