Fat Fab tech day in Idyllwild

Post by Andre »

Since I’m gonna be hanging around through the weekend, Jim Mettler ( real documentary episode 2) is allowing me ( Andre- real documentary episode 1) to host a tech day in Idyllwild, Ca. Come one and all to enjoy truck talk, truck tech, and pinz fellowship. Jim has a compromised immune system so if you're ill, keep your distance.
Pot luck BBQ, lunch at Jim’s
Overnight camping close by,
BYOB
I’ll be camping sat nite with the group.
Button up things Sunday with a possible trail ride down the hill.

Show up early. Call from the ranger station down town. 951-765-7224,

One summer, if there is 2-3 weeks notice, I am flying out to meet everyone. Would love it
Enjoy and I hope a bunch of people take advantage of this

Weekend went well... For Vince. He got all the attention. 2 repaired body mounts fabricated and installed and one aluminum ladder modified twice( not his fault). Thanks again to Jim for hosting and Vince for bringing the stellar home made, from scratch, peach/blueberry cobbler.

Huge thanks again to Jim for hosting and to Andre for miracle welding work. He did a critical structural body repair that's been bothering me for years now. I really doubt 95% of welders would have attempted this one without full body removal.

The ladder was a fairly simple mod.. This is an aluminum ladder made by Frontrunner for G-class trucks but they don't fit the older ones like mine on the psng side due to the fuel filler. When I looked at a demo version of it initially it seemed too lightweight to be functional but after putting 200lbs on it, and seeing that it didnt even flex, I waited to get a deal on one. (It has a stainless steel mount that supports all the weight when climbing it.) If I were using a ladder really often I'd have a FatFab one built but this one works well for what I'm doing with it, and it feels like it must weigh 5 lbs. total! We moved it over and cut the bracket off to match the slope to the fuel filler. It's well out of the way of everything now. Very happy with it.

Before and after.
