Hello all,
I have had the interest in a military 4x4 for years. Never been able to realize the desire. Now is my time.
I have lightly studied both the Unimog & Pinzgauer. For me the Pinz is more usable for an outing.
So... at this point I have a deposit on a Pinzgauer 710. To be paid in full upon inspection (April 15th-ish). It looks to be a legit Pinz, with maintenance performed and a history. A sync'd, fluids changed original in complete running order (as I know it now).
I hope to maintain & do light upgrades, not devaluing or harming the basic vehicle. Limited usage < 1000 miles a year also forced by Ins. coverage. A trailered to location vehicle (except for local usage).
I will have a unique one! I will stay slightly tight lipped until its in my hands, with proper sized tires mounted from the get go (255/85-16 correct?). I will post pictures when the seller and I am closer to the transaction.
I am located in the PNW, and I see a couple of folks to talk to and learn from in the area.
Look to learn a lot here. I have been studying maintenance/build shops found mostly on this forum. Thank you in advance for the wisdom.
Cheers

Re: Soon To Be Owner!
Congratulations. Welcome to the experience, it’s easily one of the best off-road vehicles I’ve ever driven and very fun to drive.
Also, you can get full, unrestricted, insurance for them. I have State Farm and can use it as much as I’d like with no cap on miles.
Where in the PNW are you? I’m in REDMOND area, there’s a few places in the area that Pinzgauer machanical and tuning experience that it’s worth knowing about.
Cheers,
Ben

Re: Soon To Be Owner!
Hello Ben,
You are one that I have read about in the area, and a fine rig you have. I live in Wenatchee now (retired) and have lived in Redmond and Woodinville over the years. I have mtn & road biked all over throughout the years plus light 4x4'ing too in the PNW. Motorcycles mostly now...
My to be rig has a sweet setup, with good maintenance, in the past and as currently being sold (cross fingers).
I hope to meet up with you and learn some!

IIRC one of the guys that used to be a regular lived just up the road from you in Cashmere. Drawing a blank on user name, anyone?

I have seen one or two around the area. I believe they had a business name on them. One being at a service shop - I will probably inquire from the service aspect.

Re: Soon To Be Owner!
Thanks GadgetPhreak. I have pics of my soon to be hybrid 710 but I hesitate to post them up as I have not finalized the deal, although a deposit has been placed.
With that said, I have plans for this Pinz. First would be verifying the drivetrain does not need immediate rebuild. If portals or diffs or whatever need rebuild I will work to do that. I hope I don't have to go there. I have been told the drivetrain is original (taken not to be rebuilt).
When I get passed that point I hope to check on the front drive shaft balance. Next on my hopeful list could be power steering. Seems like a suitable upgrade. This rig may have electronic ignition - I'm not sure yet. That would be on the list. It does have a fresh rebuild on the carbs and have been sync'd. It has incorrect sized tires on it now - I will change tires out.
I am ready to make this Pinz better, and upgraded, and I knew this going in.

What ever happened to this? Did you get the 710?
